Hi young adventurers! If you’re looking for a challenge, join this program and you’ll take all your classes in English. But don’t worry, you don’t need to be completely bilingual to apply, and you’ll get used to it quickly (though don’t overdo it—you still have to send a cover letter and a video statement of purpose to apply, in English, obviously). You won’t have any English classes per se, but you’ll have a second foreign language to choose from a wide range of languages like Spanish, Chinese, or other dialects to figure out. You also have 2 hours of Scan Option per week, which replaces some of the other kinda boring classes that regular students have to sit through (well, they call it an “option,” but it’s mandatory); these are more laid-back classes on various topics (cognitive science, film studies, public speaking…). By the way, the program has recently been renamed GlobalINSA, but most teachers and students still call it SCAN.
The program is one of the most dynamic, organizing tons of events every year, such as WISC (the Intérnaires Scan weekend, a bit more intimate than WEI, because there are far fewer of us, so you can really get to know the other explorers in your program), Pi Day, themed costume days, and so on. And the icing on the cake is that you’ll have very light midterms in the first semester—it’s a treat (though there is still a project to do during midterm week … Did you think you’d get off that easily?). So if you’re feeling adventurous and want to improve your English, I recommend giving it a try.
